6. Frayed Edge Rustic Liner

6

For a relaxed, farmhouse-style look, a frayed edge liner skips the hem entirely. The raw edges of the fabric are allowed to fray slightly, creating a soft, lived-in border that drapes casually over the rim of the basket.

To get a controlled fray, cut your fabric to size, then pull a few threads from each edge to encourage a soft fringe. Wash and dry the fabric before installing it if you’d like a more pronounced frayed texture. Drop the fabric into the basket and let the edges ruffle naturally over the rim.

This style works beautifully with linen, burlap, or a loosely woven cotton. It’s a great match for woven seagrass baskets, wire bins, or galvanized metal tubs, where the rustic texture feels at home. The project takes almost no time at all, especially if you skip measuring precisely and just trim the fabric by eye.

Be aware that frayed liners will continue to shed a bit of fiber over time. If that bothers you, a thin line of clear fabric glue along the edge can stop the fraying without changing the look.
