9. Patchwork Fabric Liner from Scraps

A patchwork liner is the perfect way to use up all those small fabric scraps you’ve been saving. By sewing small pieces together, you create a one-of-a-kind liner that looks collected, handmade, and full of character.
Gather scraps in a color family, or go scrappy for a more eclectic look. Cut the scraps into uniform squares or strips, then sew them together into a panel large enough to line your basket. Once the panel is complete, cut it to the right size and finish the edges with a simple hem or bias tape.
Patchwork liners work especially well in children’s rooms, craft rooms, and country-style spaces. They tell a story, and they make even a plain plastic bin feel special. The project is also a great way to practice basic piecing if you’re new to sewing.
For a quicker version, try a “strippy” patchwork using long horizontal or vertical pieces. It goes together faster, uses fewer seams, and still has that handcrafted charm.
