7. Pleated Corner Fabric Liner

7

A pleated corner liner fits a basket the way a fitted sheet fits a mattress, snug and clean. Instead of just dropping fabric into the bin, you create small pleats at each corner so the fabric hugs the shape of the basket and lays flat against the bottom.

Measure the bottom of your basket and the depth. Cut a piece of fabric the size of the bottom measurement plus twice the depth plus two inches on each side. Fold and press a hem along the top edge. At each corner, fold the fabric to create a small diagonal pleat, then stitch the pleat in place by hand or with a machine. The pleats will allow the fabric to fit neatly into a square or rectangular basket without bunching.

This style is especially useful for baskets with sloped sides, like a tapered woven bin, because the pleats let the fabric follow the angle of the walls. The result looks tailored, almost like a custom upholstery job. Choose a solid fabric for a clean, modern look, or a small-scale print for something a little more traditional.

💡 Pro Tip: Press your pleats flat with a hot iron before stitching. Crisp pleats are easier to sew and give the finished liner a much more polished appearance.
