3. Monogram or Word Art
A monogram is one of the most personal versions of this craft, and it makes a thoughtful housewarming or wedding gift. The same approach works for a short word like “home,” “gather,” or a family name, as long as you keep the letters thick enough for nails to follow.
Choose a chunky font, print the letter or word at the size you want, and tape it to your board. Nail around the outer edge of each letter only. When you wrap, work in a single direction for a neat, orderly look, or crisscross randomly for a denser, more textured fill. A two-color approach, where the outline is one shade and the fill another, adds definition to letters that might otherwise blur together.
Time: 1 to 2 hours for a single letter, longer for a full word. Difficulty: beginner to intermediate, depending on letter shapes. Curvy fonts with thin strokes are harder than block letters. Hang it in an entryway, above a coat rack, or in a child’s room with their initial.
