2. Minimalist Mountain Range
Mountain string art has a way of making any room feel like a cabin retreat, and it works in a modern apartment just as well as it does in a rustic living room. The layering is what sells it: three or four overlapping peaks, each filled with a different thread color, create depth without any shading technique.
Sketch your peaks on paper first, or print a silhouette you like and trace it. Transfer the outline to a stained or painted board, then nail along each ridge line. Use a deep charcoal for the front peak, a mid-tone gray behind it, and a soft cream or pale blue for the furthest one. Add a small circle of yellow thread in the sky for a sun or moon if you want a focal point.
Materials tip: A 12-by-16-inch board is a good size for a first attempt. Larger boards need more nails and more thread than you expect, so buy an extra skein. This piece looks right at home above a console table or paired with a second board in a different palette for a diptych.
