2. Felt Owl Bookmarks
Reading-loving kids will light up when they discover a handmade owl peeking out from between the pages of their favorite book. To make these, cut two identical owl body shapes from felt, then cut a smaller belly shape, two tiny wings, and a beak. Layer the pieces on top of one of the body cutouts, glue them in place, and then glue the second body shape on top, leaving the bottom edge open so the bookmark can slip over a page.
The hardest part of the project is making sure the two body shapes match. To help, fold a piece of felt in half, draw half of an owl shape along the fold, and cut it out while folded. This gives you a perfectly symmetrical pair every time. Total crafting time is around fifteen minutes, and the difficulty level is gentle enough for kindergarteners with supervision.
Decorating is where the personality shows up. Felt hearts, glitter glue, mini buttons, and little stitched stars all work beautifully. Older kids might enjoy adding a name or a short message on the back. These bookmarks also make lovely party favors for a reading-themed birthday, especially when paired with a small paperback book.
